Constipation during Pregnancy - 5 Steps to Relieve Pregnancy Constipation
By: Carolyn R. Smith

The reason why there is constipation during pregnancy is because of hormonal imbalances that usually fluctuate in a pregnant woman’s body. Because of the high level of a pregnant woman’s progesterone, it causes the food they eat to move slower in the intestines that results to slow digestion and eventually have constipation as the outcome. Relieving constipation during pregnancy is easy and simple. The effective and safest way to treat constipation when pregnant is by utilizing natural home remedies.

Constipation during pregnancy can be miserable though, causing knotting pain, bloating, and discomfort. But there are steps that a woman can take to ease constipation, and here they are:

1. Fiber should be increased in a woman's diet. Increasing the fiber in your diet can help the food travel faster, and keep the colon healthy. Cooked brown rice and healthy whole grains are a great way to get the fiber needed to combat constipation. Fresh fruits such as apples and peaches can help too. Vitamin and antioxidant rich carrots and broccoli are also recommended.

2. Drink at least 8-10 glasses (8 oz.) of oxygen rich purified water each day. Tea is great, but it lacks oxygen because it has been boiled. Make sure you are consuming filtered water every day.

3. Add peppermint sprigs and lemon slices to your water. They will both soften your stool. Also, mint tea will ease gas and bloating pain.

4. Both prunes and grapes are vital when it comes to battling constipation. They are both easy to ingest in the form of fruit or juice, and they will make your bowels as soft as can be. Not only will they battle bloat and constipation, but they will aid in the ease of hemorrhoids as well.

5. Add daily exercise to your routine. If you are not usually one to exercise, simply start with 10-15 minute brisk walk every day. If you are someone that exercises, change your workout routine slightly to see if you can stimulate a more regular bowel movement. Prenatal Yoga programs are great for this.

Constipation during pregnancy can be painful and disruptive but it is not something that pregnant women have to suffer on. Relieving constipation during pregnancy can be overcome with appropriate diet and regular exercise. These factors can even prevent constipation from occurring. Make use of the helpful tips mentioned above and live a stressful pregnancy life.
